Publishing House "Lista" started its activity in 1993. It is specialized in books for students and children. Some of titles are: "Bulgarian folk tales", "Gods and people of Hellas (Greek myths and legends), Krali Marko /stories, songs, legends/; "Bulgarian folk sayings, proverbs and riddles", "Bulgarian Fables", "Peter fence plashes" /tongue-twisters/; "Folklore and Education".
Emblematic of the publishing house is luxurious series "Children`s Folk Encyclopedia," authored by Dr. Lilia Stareva and Prof. Plamen Bochkov. Publications are richly illustrated with children`s drawings. Encyclopedia present by myth and legend exciting examples of the Bulgarian folk heritage. Six volumes are printed: Volume 1: "Astronomy, Meteorology, Animals and Plants", Volume 2: "Devil, Dragon, Fairies, Vampires", Volume 3: "God and man. Old Testament legends", Volume 4: "Saints and people", volume 5: "Krali Marko, Momchil, Doychin and other heroes", Volume 6. "Bulgarian kings, chieftains and heroes".
Publications of recent years are related to our desire to include actively Bulgarian children not only as readers but as artists. The result is three beautiful and useful books whose authors are Bulgarian children: "Bulgarian sayings around the world" /translated into 14 language /, "Bulgarian sayings around the world 2" /13 languages / and "Bulgarian folk riddles around the world" /10 languages /. Illustrators are students from across the country. Translations are made from Bulgarians living abroad.
We have tried to collect the best examples of the folklore of Bulgarians, their wisdom, their experience, and the children magical look on the world.
Director of the Publishing House "Lista" is Dr. Lilia Stareva. She is a chairperson of the "Child and folklore" Foundation which works in active cooperation with "Lista".
